State addendum · first edition, October 2026 Ready
Employment Services in Mississippi
In Mississippi the Department of Mental Health both runs and certifies I/DD services. Its waiver pays for Job Discovery, Job Development and Job Maintenance, and its safety rules ban every form of restraint.
Mississippi at a glance
| Agency for employment services | Department of Mental Health, Bureau of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities |
|---|---|
| How employment is funded | ID/DD Waiver and the IDD Community Support Program (1915(i)) |
| Vocational rehabilitation | Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS), including VR for the Blind |
| Medicaid agency | Division of Medicaid |
| Minimum wage | Federal $7.25 (no state minimum wage law) |
The three biggest differences
- Discovery, Development, Maintenance. Separate waiver services with new rates from January 2026 map onto the package's journey.
- No restraint at all. Physical, mechanical and chemical restraint are banned in every setting, and abuse goes to the state within 8 hours.
- Strict screening. Fingerprint checks every two years and registry checks every month for community staff.
